About Prairie Post Seed Co.
Prairie Post Seed Co. was founded in 2026 in St. Charles County, Missouri. We sell seed of twelve wildflowers native to Missouri, packed by hand into packets designed like vintage postage stamps.
Why a post office
We like the idea of a small-town post office on the prairie: the place where news arrives, packages come in, and neighbors swap notes on what they’re planting.
That’s the idea behind this seed company. Every species in our Missouri Native Series is a numbered stamp, Nos. 1 to 12. Each packet carries a postmark that tells you when to sow: SOW DEC–FEB, SOW MAR–MAY or SOW SEP–NOV. Kits arrive like parcels. Some people collect the whole series; most start with one number and come back for the ones they’re missing.
Why Missouri natives
Every plant in the series grows wild in Missouri; each one is in the Missouri Department of Conservation’s field guide. They feed the insects and birds that live here: milkweeds are the only food monarch caterpillars eat, and swallowtails, checkerspots, native bees and goldfinches depend on others in the series. Once they’re established, many handle Missouri’s summer heat, dry spells and clay.
Most of them need a winter chill before they’ll sprout. So we start them the way the prairie does, by sowing seed outdoors in winter. That’s also why a seed kit makes an honest December gift: it arrives right when it’s time to sow.
How we work
- Packed by hand. Every packet is filled, sealed and labeled in St. Charles County.
- Labeled honestly. The back of every packet shows the lot number, the germination test result and test date, the net weight and seed count, and a sell-by date. We don’t promise more than the test shows.
- Sourced facts. Our growing information comes from the Missouri Department of Conservation, Grow Native!, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, university extension services and native seed growers. Each guide lists its sources.
- Small on purpose. Twelve species, chosen to bloom in turn from April into October and to cover sun, part shade, dry ground and clay.
Where we are
Based in St. Charles County, Missouri. We ship to the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. (except Colorado, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin until our seed permits for those states arrive), and we plan to be at native plant sales and markets around St. Louis in season.
